COMPETITIONS

The Aurora Awards does not view “competition” the same as most, in that our entrants are not competing against each other to be titled as “Best of (category)”. That method only rates the highest performance level of those who enter the competition or festival.

At the Aurora Awards, filmmakers are competing against their own selves, national industry performance levels and Aurora’s Standard of Excellence. There are two time periods per year in which to enter with deadlines to meet. Judging is performed more often than annual industry awards, thus allowing a more frequent flow of judging feedback. A competition merely refers to the grouping and time segment in which we have to accept entries, judge and award winners -- and for each entrant to compete with their former self or team in a quest for a quality industry measurement.

TRUE AWARD-WINNERS

How many creators make an award-winning piece and then stop creating that level of excellence? We encourage our Aurora Awards winners to be continuous award-winners so the title remains accurate to the day they make the claim and so clients of filmmakers may know they are currently capable of making quality work for their next assignment. Many of our Aurora Award winners repeat excellence time after time. Ask your filmmaker, “When was the last award that you won an Aurora?”. If they are an Aurora Award winner, chances are great that it was pretty recent.
